Memory Brain Location

April 30th, 2006

memory brain location
Anyone here a NEUROLOGIST or BRAIN SCIENTIST?

I have a question regarding memory. Is memory stored in a particular region of the brain or is it stored all around the cerebrum in random locations? And also how does memory transform into memory i.e. how does an image of a face become a memory…(what happens after it enters the eye?) and what exactly is the physical nature of memory…is it electrical signals or tissue matter?

Thanks for the input

Dr. Zohar is very wrong. The Wernicke and Broca regions are related to the recognition and production of speech. It’s the hippocampus that plays a major role in the formation of memories. In general memories are not stored in specific regions of the brain but the destruction of specific regions of the brain can inhibit the formation or recall of specific types of memories.

The question about how memories are formed is too complex to answer here at the level you’re requesting. However the simplified version is that memories are encoded, stored and then retrieved. If you look in wikipedia for those topics I’m sure you’ll find a satisfactory answer.

No one specifically knows what physical form memories take but it is know that they are related to the creation and strengthening of new synapses between neurons in the brain.

How can you make a room smell of coffee?

I’m doing an experiment at school, in psychology, which is about cues & memory, and how smell affects the recall of information.

I want the room to smell of coffee, considering I dont have the whole day to be working on this (ie. instantly smell of coffee.)
Some people have suggested that I light a candle and put coffee beans around it…

…any better suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Bring the coffee maker into your room and make coffee.

Change Memory Mac Mini

change memory mac mini

Apple’s most iconic devices so far

Apple Inc, is an American multinational corporation, which designs and manufactures consumer electronics and software products and best-known for its hardware products include Macintosh computers, the iPod and the iPhone.

To various computer users, the company has defined the PC industry, driven technology innovation, and changed the perception of personal computing. Since, 1976 the company reinvented itself several times over, as it developed and enhanced the Macintosh, affecting the world of computing every time it did. Macintosh or Mac, is a product line of personal computers designed, developed and marketed by Apple after its introduction in 1984.

Now, let’s take a historical trip and learn how the Mac evolution led to the Apple’s revolution.

The Apple I
Sold as an assembled circuit board, it lacked basic features such as a keyboard, monitor, and case. It was sold as a motherboard (with CPU, RAM, and basic textual-video chips) less than what is today considered a complete personal computer. The Apple I went on sale in July 1976 and was market-priced at $666.66.

The Apple II was introduced on April 16, 1977 and it differed from its major rivals, the TRS-80 and Commodore PET, because it came with color graphics and an open architecture. While early models used ordinary cassette tapes as storage devices, they were superseded by the introduction of a 5 1/4 inch floppy disk drive and interface, the Disk II.

Apple Lisa
With a price tag of $10,000, it was released in 1981 and remembered as one of Apple’s most disappointing products. It was a more advanced system than the Macintosh of that time in many respects, such as its inclusion of protected memory, cooperative multitasking, a generally more sophisticated hard disk based operating system, a built-in screensaver, an advanced calculator with a paper tape and RPN, support for up to 2 MB of RAM, expansion slots, and a larger higher resolution display.

Mac 128K
Apple launched the Macintosh in a famed 1984 Super Bowl commercial, with a beige case which contains a 9-inch monitor and comes with a keyboard and mouse. It had a selling price of $2,495. It features an 8 MHz Motorola 68000 microprocessor, a 128 KB DRAM, a 64 KB ROM chip that boosts the effective memory to 192 KB.

Mac II
Retailing for US$3,898 base price (for the CPU unit only), the Macintosh II was the first “modular” Macintosh model, so called because it came in a horizontal desktop case like many PCs of the time. It introduced space for an internal hard disk (originally 20 MB or 40 MB) and an optional second floppy disk drive.

Mac Portable
It was Apple’s first attempt at making a battery-powered portable Macintosh PC that held the power of a desktop Macintosh. It was released in September 1989 and received with excitement from most critics but with very poor sales to consumers. With a price tag of $6500, it featured a B&W active-matrix LCD screen, ergonomic keyboard, trackball and lead-acid battery with 10 hours life. It used expensive SRAM in an effort to maximize battery life and to provide an “instant on” low power sleep mode.

The 20th Anniversary Mac
To celebrate its 20 years, on January 7, 1997 Apple unveiled the limited edition Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh (TAM) at the MacWorld Expo, San Francisco.

At $7,499 the TAM featured a 250 MHz 603e processor, 12.1″ active matrix LCD, with 2MB of VRAM, 4x CD-ROM, 2GB ATA hard drive, vertically mounted Apple Floppy SuperDrive, as well as a TV/FM tuner, S-Video card, and a custom-made Bose sound system. It had a trackpad instead of a mouse, which could be detached from the keyboard if desired. When not required, the keyboard could slide under the TAM’s head unit, leaving the trackpad exposed for continued access.

iMac
Introduced in 1998, iMac is a range of all-in-one Macintosh desktop computers. The first original form, the iMac G3 was egg-shaped with a CRT monitor, enclosed by colored, translucent plastic. In the second revision, the iMac G4, moved to a design of a hemispherical base containing all the main components and an LCD monitor on a freely moving arm attached to the top of the base. The iMac G5 and the Intel iMac placed all the components immediately behind the display, creating a slim design that tilts only up and down on a simple metal base.

Earlier this year, Apple updated its offerings for the iMac, featuring NVIDIA chipsets and the new Mini-DisplayPort.

MacBook Air
On January 15, 2008, the company introduced its ultraportable the MacBook Air, a computer that the company billed as the world’s thinnest notebook, priced starting at $1,799. Sporting a silvery finish, the MacBook Air features a 13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen display that has a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. It weighs about 3 pounds, and sports a thickness of 0.16-0.76 inches. It is 12.8 inches wide and 8.95 inches deep.

Several features were sacrificed to reduce the computer’s size and weight. It is Apple’s first notebook since the PowerBook 2400c without a built-in removable media drive. It also omits a FireWire port, Ethernet port, line-in, card slots and a Kensington Security Slot. The battery is internal; not user removable and the RAM is soldered onto the motherboard. A single speaker is included for mono sound. It has been revised once since the original release.

which memory foam mattress brand is the best?

i am told Tempur is the best memory foam mattress brand… is that right? know of any which is better?

Tempur is the better known memory foam mattress brand… yes, but is not necessarily the best. Memory Interface Bit

April 22nd, 2006

memory interface bit
question about graphics card bit memory.?

Hi. Just wondering when a graphics card has a 128 bit memory interface does that mean it can only utilize 256MB of VRAM? And a 256 bit memory interface of 256 can only utilize 512MB? If so why do some 128 bit memory interface cards, like the NVIDIA 9600M GS, have 1GB of dedicated VRAM when it can only use 256MB? Is it different for desktops and laptops? Thanks

what you just said was 100% incorrect, they have nothing to do with each other.

Laptop Memory Pc2700 1gb

April 20th, 2006

I want to upgrade my Toshiba M 35X Celeron Laptop Memory?

I have 256 MB ram and recently I upgraded my Hard drive to 160 GB as my old 40 GB hard drive crashed.

I am looking for additional RAM to support this 160GB hard drive and improve the performance.

1GB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR PC2700 memory module is the memory supported by my machine,

I have 2 qtns-

1- Is there a right & left -OR- top & bottom where RAM is concerned as there are 2 slots for memory ?

2 - Best site to get cheaper ones ?

as long as you get ddr pc2700 sodimm ram sticks you will be fine, if there are 2 slots i would suggest you get 2 x 512mb sticks instead of one stick of 1 gb and just be careful when fitting them to make sure they go in the correct way but generally if they are the wrong way round they will not go fully into the slot easily. the best site would be www.crucial.com enter the make and model of the pc and it will recommend the best sticks to get and they have a good price

Memory Card Error

April 18th, 2006

memory card error

Memory Card Error in Pentax *istD digital Camera

The Pentax *istD Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera, a 6.1 mega-pixel camera, is smallest and lightest DSLR. It provides Pentax KAF mount, shutter speed of 1/4000sec to 30sec and weighs 550g. To store the pictures in the Pentax *istD DSLR, the user needs to use a Compact Flash (CF) memory card. A CF memory card can be corrupted due to file system corruption or damage, read or write error, malicious software like virus etc. Once the CF memory card is corrupted, the pictures saved in the CF memory card become inaccessible and invisible. For absolute and orderly recovery of the pictures from the corrupted CF memory card, if no backup is available, the user needs to use advanced Photo Recovery Software.

Consider a scenario where a user has taken few pictures from Pentax *istD DSLR with CF memory card as additional storage media. When the user attempts to view the pictures saved in the CF media card, he receives the below error message:

“Memory Card Error”

The user takes out the CF memory card and again inserts in the camera. He encounters the same error message. The main cause of the above error message is that Pentax *istD camera is unable to read any picture stored on the CF memory card. To save new pictures in the media card, the user needs to format the memory card. To format a CF memory card in Pentax *istD camera, the user needs to follow these steps:

• The user needs to select [Format] from the Main Menu.
• He needs to press the four-way controller to display the [Format] screen.
• Finally, the user needs to select [Format] with the four-way controller and click OK.

After the formatting process of a CF card in Pentax *istD camera is completed, all the previously saved pictures from the CF memory card get erased. In such scenarios, if the user needs to recover and restore lost pictures from the CF memory card, then he needs to use effective Picture Recovery application. Such recovery software incorporate influential and high-end scanning algorithms to recover and restore the lost pictures.

Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery is the ultimate Photo Recovery utility used to recover lost pictures. With read only and interactive user interface features, this recovery utility supports Windows and Apple Mac platforms with specialized software versions. It can also recover a wide range of audio and video files.
