Free Activities To Increase Children’s Memory

January 4th, 2009
Thanks to TV, radio, and the Internet, we are all tormented by an overload of information. And thanks to the stress caused by the hectic lives we live, our capability to focus our mind, take in information, and recollect it later when needed has been destroyed. This article explores natural methods that can be utilized to cure the situation.

I would like you to meditate on this for a minute. As you sit there and read this expose, a stream of information is entering your mind through your eyes. But you are also hearing sounds, feeling bodily feelings like the force of the chair against your buttocks and back, the feeling of the clothing on your body, and the air temperature and movement on your skin. You are also in receipt of information by way of your nose in the form of aromas. And of course, you're in receipt of data in the form of the various tastes in your mouth. And how about the emotional thoughts that you are presently experiencing? That is also data that you're processing at the moment. We reside in an information intensive world. Thanks to the Internet, almost anything and everything that you might ever want to know is only a few clicks of the mouse away. I recently read a piece that said that even in a serene and peaceful environment, we are bombarded by sixty thousand stimuli per second. And that is occurring sixty seconds out of each minute, and sixty minutes out of each hour. And it goes on twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, week in and week out for the length of our entire life. And that's a big part of the crisis. We are all suffering from "information overload." And that makes it very tricky to memorize all of the data that we want to memorize or need to be able to recall. Quite often, when we are reading, we find that our eyes have been traversing the words on the page, while our conscious mind has been off somewhere else on a tangent. When we get to the bottom of the page, we realize that our eyes have seen the words, but we have no conscious recollection of what we have just read. That is because our mind has been somewhere else worrying about a problem, or working out a plan. Today it is an every day occurrence to hear even young people state things like, "I'm having a senior moment." Regardless of your age, and whether you are a student, part of the work force, or a retired senior, you know what I'm talking about. In our wild world it is all too often extremely difficult to focus your attention. SO WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING SCENARIOS IS YOUR PROBLEM? A. Your mind begins to roam as you read or study, and then suddenly you grasp that you do not have the slightest idea what you've read. B. When you are in a social situation and new acquaintances are introduced to you, you forget their names as quickly as you hear them. C. You recall that you have an errand to do in another room; however, as soon as you start walking in the direction of the other room you totally forget what that chore is. D. You are able to stay alert and understand new information. But when you take an exam, "Test Anxiety" overcomes you and creates a mental block, and you are unable to recollect the answers to the questions on the test that you in fact know. The major cause of a student's lack of ability to focus their attention is that people are suffering from too much anxiety. And the major cause of a mental block to recall is also anxiety. So it stands to reason that the more relaxed a person is, the better they will be able to focus their concentration, absorb information, and then be able to recall it at a later date. Today, hypnosis and memory enhancement has become a popular topic. That is partly because hypnosis is an outstanding instrument for causing a relaxed state of being. In fact, the very essence of hypnosis is relaxation. And as the mind calms down, the ability to keep the mind focused increases. Similarly, a calm mind enhances the capability to retain information, and recall it when it is needed. Hypnosis memory improvement is a wonderful modality for eliminating test anxiety. There are several hypnotic methods that can be used to program a student with the positive expectancy of tranquility, self-reliance, and success while taking exams. Students can take a course on how to apply self-hypnosis simply and economically in the privacy of their own home by purchasing hypnosis CD's. It's easy to locate additional information on hypnosis to enhance memory and recall in the Hypnosis Research Library located on my website. Alan B.
